Today I'm thankful for...
1. The end of January! It means we survived this hard month of Bobby's general surgery rotation! He was on call last night so we got to see him today and he was home for dinner. He picked Lillian up from preschool, which is a special treat. He took the girls to the park in the nice weather. He stayed home so I could go to my Young Womens activity at church and he fell asleep with Lillian and Sydney in our bed. It's so nice to have Daddy home! Februrary isn't looking easy either, but if we survived this month we can survive next month, too!
2. Left-over birthday cake and dessert picnics. My mom made an amazingly delicious triple layer chocolate brownie fudge cake for my birthday (at my request...she spoiled me)! There was a lot left over- not because it wasn't good enough to eat, but because it was HUGE (and because I didn't invite enough friends to eat it with us). So tonight Lillian had a brilliant idea to have a dessert picnic, kind of like how we have a picnic dinner when Daddy is on call (see yesterday's post). Daddy was honored to be a guest at one of our picnics and we all enjoyed eating bite-size pieces of the delectable brownie cake.
3. Facebook. It's amazing to see how Facebook can be used to easily reach out to individuals who are experiencing an emotional tragedy, and how it can be used to mobilize and motivate groups of people to act. I'm grateful for this technology. It's a truly meaningful use of social networking, beyond mundane status updates and bad photos that family and friends tag you in.
